Opportunities for Preventing Childhood Dental Caries through Implementation of Health Care Reform (Trendnotes Issue No. 3)

TrendNotes, published semi-annually by The National Maternal and Child Oral Health Policy Center, is designed to highlight emerging trends in children’s oral health and promote policies and programmatic solutions that are grounded in evidence-based research and practice. It focuses policymakers’ attention on the trends, opportunities and options to improve oral health for all children at lower cost through the best use of prevention, disease management, care coordination, and maximized resources.

This issue of TrendNotes provides an overview of the oral health provisions contained in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Additionally, it discusses the opportunities presented by ACA, including how ACA builds on provisions included in the reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIPRA), to build and strengthen a comprehensive system of oral health for children.
